| Gay Reality Show Video Podcast Set For iTunes Debut
The first-of-its-kind eight episode series starring Sirius Satellite Radio personality Derek Hartley to run exclusively on iTunes through October 11, 2006. New York – August 22, 2006 – “The So Real Life”, a new video podcast, is set to debut on iTunes on Wednesday, August 23, 2006. Chronicling the all too true adventures of Derek Hartley, a talk radio personality from Sirius Satellite Radio, the series is a weekly glimpse at the real life activities of a gay New Yorker. “The So Real Life” is the first ever gay video podcast created in the reality show format. The brainchild of Derek Hartley and filmmaker Alex Capriole, “The So Real Life” sends up the celebrity documentary series genre by presenting daily life as it actually is. “I wanted a reality show that was actually real. Most reality shows, even the ones I love, just seem so fake to me. With ‘The So Real Life’ we both pay homage to these shows and poke fun at them” says series star Derek Hartley. The eight episode series presents various true aspects of Hartley’s daily life, from the mundane to the downright outlandish. The series ends with a surprising twist and “cliffhanger” finale. “The complete series tells a story and the finale is an appropriate and very funny ending to that story” says filmmaker Alex Capriole. “Before ‘The So Real Life,’ I wasn’t a fan of reality TV. But when Derek told me the story, I liked what he wanted to say about those shows. This podcast really is his life, but it is also a parody.” Derek Hartley is the co-host of the popular “Derek and Romaine Show” airing nationally weekdays on Sirius Satellite Radio. Prior to that, he wrote the “FantasyMan Island” column on PlanetOut.com for nearly nine years, starting in March 1997. His personal website is DerekHartley.com. Alex Capriole is a student in the prestigious New York University Film School. His personal website is AlexCapriole.com. This is the first video podcast project for both of them. Each episode runs approximately two to four minutes and is available as a free download on iTunes.com. New episodes will be made available each week on iTunes through October 11th, National Coming Out Day.
